Watercolour Background Technique

Today’s post is for the Hop Abroad Instagram Hop for August 2024. Each month, we will have a different theme; this month’s theme is doing a card using the background technique.

I used the Textured Floral Bundle for today’s project.

Here is my project

I used Mossy Meadow as my base card followed by another layer of Mossy Meadow, I used 100% fluid watercolour paper to create the background of the card using the colours

Boho Blue, Lemon Lolly, Night of Navy and Petal Pink. You will get different results according to how much water you use for your project each time.

Measurements:

Base card Mossy Meadow -10.5cm x 29.7 @14.9cm ( 4 1/4″ x 11″ @ 5 1/2″)
Layer 1: Mossy Meadow -9.7cm x 14.1cm ( 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″)
Layer 2: 100% fluid Watercolour paper -9.4cm x 13.8cm ( 3 3/4″ x 5″)
Inside-Basic White -10cm x 14.4cm (4″ x 5 1/4″)

Add water to the Watercolour paper first using water painters then add the colours Boho Blue, Lemon Lolly, Night of Navy and Petal Pink randomly. Once all is mixed, use press and seal on top of the watercolour background and give pressure to create a texture to the background. Leave it overnight to dry. Morning you will get a beautiful different texture.

Then die-cut the background Watercolour paper using Textured floral dies and add Basic White cardstock to the die-cut negative side.

Stamp the sentiment on Soft Sea Foam cardstock and attach it to the front of the card using Stampin’ Dimensional.

I used the die-cut piece to create another simple card.

Measurements:

Base Card Basic White -10.5cmx 29.8cm @14.9cm (4 1/4″x 11″ scored @ 5 1/2″)
Layer 1 Basic white : 10cm x 14.4cm (4″ x 5 1/4″) (2 pieces-One for Inside)
Layer 2 Basic white: 9.7cm x 14.1cm (3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″) – embossed on top and bottom of the Basic white layer.
Splatter some of the Boho Blue Ink to the front of the card.

Don’t forget to decorate the inside of the card using some scrap pieces of cardstock.
